Los Angeles [US], July 21, 2025: Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has shed significant light on the highly anticipated ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ confirming that the upcoming film will pivot to a more grounded, street-level narrative. This will mark a significant shift for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, who last appeared in 2021’s multiverse-shattering ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’

Speaking during a roundtable interview in Los Angeles for ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps,’ Feige addressed questions about the new Spider-Man sequel, which is set to begin production later this summer in Kansas City and London.

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ concluded with Doctor Strange’s memory-wiping spell, leaving Peter Parker a forgotten figure in the MCU. This ending saw the character return to a more comic book-accurate portrayal, living in a cheap apartment and sporting a homemade suit, leading many fans to anticipate a more localized story. While earlier reports suggested a conflict between Sony’s desire for another multiverse film and Feige and Holland’s preference for a street-level approach, Feige’s recent comments have officially clarified the film’s direction.

“I think there’s a promise at the end of ‘No Way Home’ that, for as sad as it is, Peter is forgotten by everyone in his life. We are seeing for the first time in the Tom Holland Spider-Man stories that he is a proper Spider-Man. Him being, by himself, dedicated to saving the city and dealing with—for lack of a better term—street-level crime as opposed to world-ending events that he faced when working with the other characters,” Feige revealed, confirming ‘Brand New Day’ will be a grounded, New York City-set story, reminiscent of 2017’s ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming.’

Feige also explained the inclusion of Jon Bernthal’s Punisher in the cast. “So when you do that, you say, ‘OK, who are the other street-level characters that we’ve never seen him interact with?’ And of course, I love that the Punisher started in a Spider-Man comic and that great cover . . . I don’t want to say too much, but I will say too much. Destin is doing an amazing job right now on that movie. It starts shooting very soon, and he’s got 8 or 9 comic covers up on his wall in his art department that he is bringing to life in this movie. It’s super cool.”

Besides Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal, the confirmed cast for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ includes Sadie Sink (‘Stranger Things’) and Liza Colón-Zayas (‘The Bear’) in undisclosed roles. While the extent of their involvement remains unknown, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are also expected to reprise their respective roles as Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson and Ned Leeds, despite the events of ‘No Way Home.’ There have also been reports of Mark Ruffalo appearing as Bruce Banner/Hulk, but Marvel has yet to officially confirm this casting.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
