"Squid Game" Actor O Yeong-Su Found Guilty in Sexual Misconduct
In a recent verdict that has caught the attention of fans worldwide, O Yeong-Su, renowned for his role in the hit Netflix series “Squid Game,” has been convicted by the Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Court for sexual misconduct.
The allegations against the 79-year-old actor detailed an incident from 2017, where he is accused of inappropriately hugging and kissing a woman on the cheek without her consent. Following the court’s decision, O has been handed a sentence of eight months in prison, which will be suspended for two years, according to reports from Deadline citing Korean media sources.
In addition to the suspended sentence, the court has mandated that O attend a 40-hour sexual offender treatment program. The charges, first leveled against him in 2022, have been vigorously denied by O, who claimed the contact was misunderstood, stating he only took the woman’s hand to guide her around a lake. He has expressed his intention to appeal the court’s ruling, emphasizing that his apology was not an admission of guilt but rather an attempt to mitigate the situation.
O Yeong-Su’s storied career spans over fifty years in the entertainment industry, but it was his portrayal in “Squid Game” that catapulted him to international fame. The series, known for its gritty and grim depiction of a society where individuals on the fringes are pitted against each other in lethal versions of childhood games, has been a global phenomenon, earning O critical acclaim. This court ruling marks a significant moment in the actor’s long and distinguished career, bringing to light issues of conduct and accountability.
