Sriram Raghavan on making ‘Merry Christmas’: “A different film from anything I have made in past”

On January 12, Sriram Raghavan’s “Merry Christmas,” which starred Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif, was released in theaters. In a multilingual framework, “Merry Christmas” blends romance, crime, and suspense. Raghavan adds his trademark tension to this neo-noir tale. In a statement, Raghavan discussed his experience working on the movie, saying, “Merry Christmas is a totally different picture from anything I have created in the past. A bond that grows between two strangers over the course of one night is at the center of this movie. Of course, there is a crime involved, but occasionally a night can seem like a lifetime.”

The distinct teasers for the Tamil and Hindi versions of the movie have sparked intriguing theories about it. We’ve gone slow-burning; there’s tension and suspense, but the turns and turns are more subdued, almost invisible. To truly enjoy the payoff, the audience must be invested in Katrina and Vijay’s characters,” he continued. In “Merry Christmas,” two strangers meet, a relationship develops, and the storyline takes an unexpected turn against the backdrop of Christmas.

Sriram Raghavan’s Merry Christmas features Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi in the key parts. Two languages were used for filming, and several supporting actors appeared in the picture. Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Pratima Kannan, and Tinnu Anand are also featured in the Hindi version. In the Tamil adaptation, Rajesh Williams, Shanmugaraja, Kevin Jay Babu, and Radhika Sarathkumar play the same parts.
