Sterling K Brown Reveals Shocking Twist In Paradise's Premiere Episode
January 27, 2025: Sterling K. Brown recently shared his surprise at the unexpected twists in Dan Fogelman’s new political thriller Paradise, which premiered its debut episode on January 26. Having previously worked with Fogelman on the beloved drama This Is Us, Brown was expecting a straightforward political thriller, but the show took a turn that left him astounded.
“I said, ‘You son of a gun. You did it again,'” Brown recalled, revealing his reaction to Fogelman after discovering the shocking direction the series took. While he thought the show would focus solely on a murder mystery involving the president, he was quickly thrown off track when the story revealed that the characters were trapped in an underground bunker and that nothing was as it seemed—sunshine wasn’t sunshine, and ducks weren’t ducks.
In Paradise, Brown plays Xavier Collins, a secret service agent and single father who becomes the prime suspect in the murder of President Cal Bradford (played by James Marsden). The premiere episode shows Collins discovering the president’s body and conducting his own investigation. But things take a bizarre turn when it’s revealed that the characters are living in a highly controlled underground bunker, with two mysteries at play: Who killed the president, and why are they all trapped in this bizarre setting?
Brown praised Fogelman, calling him not only a talented creator but also a genuinely good person. “The people that God has put in my path have been both of those things, and Dan is at the top of that list,” he said, reflecting on their strong working relationship. He expressed his gratitude for working with such a kind and talented team, including much of the crew from This Is Us, making Paradise both familiar and new at the same time.
The first episode of Paradise is now streaming on Hulu, with the next two episodes set to drop on January 28. Fans of suspenseful thrillers can look forward to a gripping storyline that promises even more unexpected revelations.
