Steve Doocy Steps Off the ‘Curvy Couch’: Fox & Friends Veteran Embarks On New Chapter Across America

May 01, 2025: Steve Doocy, a familiar face to millions of Fox News viewers, is transitioning into a new phase of his career after nearly three decades as a cornerstone of the network’s morning programming. On Thursday’s broadcast of Fox & Friends, Doocy announced that he will no longer be anchoring from the show’s iconic “curvy couch” in New York City. Instead, he will co-host the program three days a week from various locations throughout the Southeast and Midwest, bringing his signature charm to diners, pickleball courts, and other hometown spots across the heartland.

“I’m not retiring. I’m not leaving the show. I’m still a host, but it’s time for a change,” Doocy shared. “After decades of getting up at 3:30 and driving into New York City in the dark, today is the last day I will host the show from the couch.”

Doocy, who has been with Fox News since its inception in 1996, first served as a weather correspondent before becoming a co-host of Fox & Friends in 1998. Known for his affable presence and moderating influence on air, he has long been regarded as a steady, relatable figure amid the evolving media landscape.

“For nearly 30 years, Steve has been a force on the curvy couch with his signature smile and wit,” said Megan Albano, Executive Vice President of Morning Programming and Program Development at Fox News Media. “His relationship with our audience is unmatched, and we are looking forward to him taking his trademark style from the couch to cities across America’s heartland.”

This transition mirrors broader shifts across the television news industry, as seasoned anchors step back or move into new roles. NBC’s Chuck Todd and Hoda Kotb, CBS’s Norah O’Donnell, CNN’s Alisyn Camerota and Chris Wallace, and MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell have all seen changes in their positions. Fox News also said goodbye to longtime anchor Neil Cavuto last year.

Doocy’s deep roots in local journalism—starting in Kansas and Iowa before joining national networks—have prepared him well for this next phase. From hosting NBC’s House Party to Not Just News and Wake Up America, Doocy has always brought an accessible, family-oriented style to the screen. His more recent role as a centrist voice on Fox & Friends further distinguished him, often encouraging calm discourse during heated segments.

Fox News had already begun preparing for the future, adding Lawrence Jones, 32, to the Fox & Friends team in 2023, signaling a blend of experience and new energy on the program.

Doocy’s next chapter will keep him on the air, but with less of the 3:30 a.m. grind and more direct interaction with everyday Americans—something that aligns with the ethos he’s always brought to morning television.
