Sunday Box Office Report: Sitaare Zameen Par Surges Past ₹59 Cr, Kuberaa Nears ₹50 Cr, While Housefull 5 Struggles

The box office was bustling this Sunday, with major titles showing contrasting trajectories. While Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par and Dhanush-led Kuberaa continued to build momentum, Housefull 5 is facing a steep climb to meet its reported high budget. Meanwhile, Hollywood’s How to Train Your Dragon sequel is gliding along at a slower pace.

After a measured start on Friday with ₹10.7 crore, Aamir Khan’s long-awaited return to cinema gathered force over the weekend. Saturday saw collections jump to ₹20.20 crore, and the film delivered a strong performance on Sunday with ₹29 crore. The three-day total now stands at an impressive ₹59.90 crore. The film has been lauded for its emotional depth and inspiring storyline, with critics and audiences praising Aamir’s portrayal of a basketball coach training differently-abled athletes.

The Dhanush-starrer Kuberaa continues to make waves across South Indian circuits. The film opened strong with ₹14.75 crore on Friday and followed it up with ₹16.5 crore on Saturday. On Sunday, it added another ₹17.25 crore to its box office tally. With a three-day total of ₹48.50 crore, the film is quickly becoming one of the biggest regional hits of the month. Dhanush’s performance has been a major talking point, earning widespread acclaim.
In contrast, the Akshay Kumar-led comedy Housefull 5 is showing signs of slowing down. While it saw a slight weekend bump—earning ₹2.25 crore on Saturday and ₹3.35 crore on Sunday—its overall performance remains under scrutiny. With a current total of ₹175.95 crore and an estimated production budget of ₹225 crore, the film needs a stronger hold in the coming week to break even.
Sunday was a tale of two box office winners—Sitaare Zameen Par and Kuberaa—each capturing audiences with powerful performances and compelling narratives. Housefull 5, meanwhile, must now rely on weekday business and word-of-mouth to close the gap on its massive budget.
