Mumbai, Maharashtra – July 27, 2025 – Veteran Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty has once again found himself at the center of a social media storm, drawing criticism for recent remarks about marriage and the division of parental responsibilities. This new wave of anger follows an earlier backlash he faced this year for his controversial statement regarding the “comfort of C-section” deliveries.

The latest controversy stems from an interview with Pinkvilla, where Shetty was asked about how the meaning of marriage has evolved over the years. His response ignited a heated debate online. “Aaj kal bachon mein patience hai hi nahi. Shaadi kuch time ke baad ek samjhauta hota hai, where you have to understand each other, live for each other,” Suniel stated, translating to, “Kids these days have no patience. Marriage, after a while, becomes a compromise, where you have to understand each other and live for one another.”

He then added the remark that has particularly irked many: “Phir ek bacha aata hai, aur patni ko yeh jaan na zaruri hai ki husband career banayega toh bache ko main dekh rahi hoon. Husband, of course, saath mein dekhega. Par aaj kal sab cheezon mein pressure bohot ho gaya hai.” This translates to, “Then a child comes into the picture, and the wife needs to understand that if the husband is building his career, she will need to take care of the child. Of course, the husband will also be involved. But these days, there is just too much pressure in everything.”

Shetty, who is set to be seen in a new season of his web series Hunter Tootega Nahi Todega, also touched upon how the modern, virtual world, with its plethora of tips on “how to be a mother, how to be a father, what to eat, and what to do,” has changed societal dynamics.

Social media users, particularly on platforms like Reddit, swiftly condemned his views as misogynistic and outdated.

“Sometimes being quiet is the wisest thing, doesn’t their PR team advice them? or even people around them… Bro should learn from his damad (son-in-law),” one user commented, seemingly referencing his son-in-law, cricketer KL Rahul. Another user remarked, “Don’t get deceived by his looks or kind of role they play, Sunil is ultimately 60+ and has a mindset similar to many people in his age group.”

Further comments highlighted the generational gap in his thinking: “Still unacceptable. My dad’s 65+ and more feminist than any of the men I know.” Others were more direct in their criticism, calling him “such an unlikable person,” “Typical Indian uncle mindset,” and a “typical misogynist.” An angry user exclaimed, “The more he speaks, the more despicable he gets. Misogynist prick! Their true colours.”

This isn’t the first time Suniel Shetty has faced public ire over his statements this year. Earlier, he was heavily criticized for his “comfort of C-section” remark, made while praising his daughter Athiya Shetty for opting for a natural delivery. Gauahar Khan, among others, had vehemently slammed him for that comment. “A what? I want to like scream at the top of my voice and say, How could you say that? Like how? There are so many myths around this topic — that if someone is having a C-section, it’s the easier option. How can there be so much misinformation? and for a male celebrity to say that, who didn’t go through pregnancy, didn’t carry a child, doesn’t know how painful C-section is,” Gauahar had stated.

One social media user encapsulated the recurrent nature of his controversies, writing, “After natural birth warrior story he is back with a male chauvinism anecdote! Seriously he should just stop talking.”
