Suniel Shetty’s ‘Comfort’ Remark About C-Section Draws Social Media Fire
May 17, 2025: Actor Suniel Shetty is receiving criticism online following remarks he made in a recent interview about his daughter Athiya Shetty’s childbirth experience. While praising her for her strength during the delivery, Suniel’s framing of a natural birth as a braver, more admirable choice over a C-section has drawn sharp reactions across social media platforms.

“In a world where everybody wants the comfort of having a caesarean baby, she chose not to do that and had a natural delivery,” Shetty said in an interview. “Every nurse and pediatrician in the hospital said it’s unbelievable how she went through the whole process.”
Though Shetty’s comments were intended to celebrate Athiya’s strength, many users took issue with how they framed C-sections as a matter of ‘comfort’ rather than a necessary or equally valid medical choice.
“Only a man would have the audacity to think a C-section is a comfort,” one user commented.
“What’s there to be proud of? The baby should be safe, the mother should be safe. Shame on people who still think this,” another added.
One particularly pointed comment read:
“Comfort of C-section! That’s new!”
Critics have emphasized that delivery method doesn’t determine a mother’s bravery or strength, and such comparisons are outdated, medically uninformed, and dismissive of the realities many women face during childbirth.
Despite the backlash, the broader tone of Suniel’s interview was emotional and affectionate. He expressed admiration for Athiya’s journey into motherhood, saying he was moved to see her strength firsthand.
“That hit me as a father. I was like, ‘Wow, she’s ready!’ Athiya was very, very strong to do that,” he said, adding that she likely inherited her strength from her mother, Mana Shetty.
He also praised Athiya’s calm approach to parenting, saying:
“She has embraced motherhood like a fish to water. Not once has she shown stress, a frown, or exhaustion.”
Athiya and her husband, cricketer KL Rahul, welcomed their daughter Evaarah on March 24. Since then, the couple has shared glimpses of their parenting journey online. On Mother’s Day, Suniel posted a throwback photo of him holding baby Athiya, to which she lovingly replied, “I’ll always be your baby.”
KL Rahul also recently posted a heartfelt tribute to Athiya, calling her an incredible mother and saying that watching her with their daughter made him “fall in love all over again.”
