June 14, 2025: Sunjay Kapur, a well-known Indian businessman and polo player, passed away on Thursday in London at the age of 53. Reports indicate that he suffered a fatal heart attack during a polo match after accidentally swallowing a bee, which caused a sting and led to suffocation.

Eyewitnesses at the polo ground heard Kapur exclaim, “I’ve swallowed something,” shortly before the incident. Later, it was confirmed that the insect was a bee. Sunjay’s friend and business associate, Suhel Seth, confirmed that Kapur’s death was due to a heart attack triggered by the bee sting.
Kapur was the head of Sona Comstar, a leading auto components manufacturer, which officially announced his passing citing a heart attack but chose not to disclose further details. Apart from his business ventures, Sunjay Kapur was also recognized as the ex-husband of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor and was a prominent figure in elite social and sporting circles internationally. He shared close ties with Britain’s Prince William and was a regular at polo matches and social events around the world.
The family is currently awaiting the completion of formalities to bring his body back to India. Ashok Sachdev, Kapur’s father-in-law, told that a postmortem was underway in London and that repatriation will take place once all necessary paperwork is complete. The last rites are expected to be held in Delhi.
Sunjay and Karisma Kapoor married in 2003 and have two children, Samaira (born 2005) and Kiaan (born 2011). The couple separated in 2014 and divorced in 2016, with Karisma now raising their children as a single mother.
Sunjay Kapur’s sudden and tragic death has left a void in both the business and sporting communities. Tributes continue to pour in as friends, family, and colleagues remember him as a dynamic entrepreneur and passionate sportsman.
