Sunny Deol’s Jaat Opens at ₹9.5 Cr: Just 25% of Gadar 2, Trails Behind Salman’s Sikandar
Mumbai, April 11 – Actor Sunny Deol may have hoped for another box office juggernaut after the historic success of Gadar 2, but his latest action film Jaat failed to recreate the frenzy. The film earned ₹9.50 crore on its opening day, just one-fourth of Gadar 2’s ₹40 crore debut in 2023.
According to data from Sacnilk.com, the film saw an overall Hindi occupancy of 12.89% on Thursday, with the best footfalls recorded in Jaipur and Chennai.
For perspective, the recent release Sikandar starring Salman Khan — despite poor reviews — managed an opening of ₹26 crore. Comparatively, Jaat‘s start reflects a lukewarm reception and lower-than-expected traction, particularly in tier-1 metros.
Jaat is directed by Gopichand Malineni and produced by People Media Factory and Mythri Movie Makers. The ensemble cast includes Saiyami Kher, Randeep Hooda, and Vineet Kumar Singh.

At a promotional event, Randeep Hooda emphasized that box office figures reflect the audience’s engagement.
“When collections are high, it shows people showed up. That’s the biggest reward,” he said.
Viineet Kumar Singh added,
“Critical reviews matter, but cinema is ultimately for the people. Their reaction is the true test.”
According to the Hindustan Times review:
“Jaat reinforces why the big-screen experience remains unmatched. Despite some narrative bumps, it delivers solid entertainment and is best enjoyed in a theatre.”
