Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari: CBFC Cuts 60% Kissing Scenes, Varun, Janhvi’s Film Gets U/A Certificate

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) demanded the edits, along with muting a ‘slur’ word, before granting the U/A 13+ rating.

September 30, 2025: The highly anticipated romantic comedy Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari,” starring Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra, and Rohit Saraf, has officially received its release clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

The Shashank Khaitan-directed film was granted a U/A 13+ certificate after the makers agreed to implement a handful of modifications suggested by the censor body.

The film, a Dharma Productions venture, is set to release on October 2, 2025, capitalizing on the festive holiday weekend.

Key Censor Board Modifications

According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the CBFC insisted on two primary cuts and the insertion of a statutory warning to ensure the U/A rating.

  • Lip-Lock Reduction: The most notable change involved trimming the lip-lock scenes by approximately 60%.
  • Audio Mute: The board also requested the muting of the word “guard” in a sequence where Varun Dhawan’s character reportedly attempts to pass off a slur as something else.
  • Anti-Alcohol Disclaimer: The producers were additionally instructed to insert an anti-alcohol disclaimer in the film.

With these changes executed, the film’s final runtime stands at 135.45 minutes (2 hours, 15 minutes, and 45 seconds). The cast also includes Maniesh Paul, Akshay Oberoi, and Abhinav Sharma.

Advance Bookings and Box Office Projection

Despite the buzz, the film faces a tough box office clash, reportedly with Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1. Nevertheless, advance bookings have begun steadily. Reports indicate that by Monday, the film had sold approximately 9,200 tickets across major national chains.

Trade experts are optimistic, projecting that the total advance ticket sales will hit 50,000 before the release day. The opening day collections are currently projected to be in the range of ₹10.50–12.50 crore. The film’s final box office success will heavily depend on positive word-of-mouth throughout the crucial holiday weekend.

The promotional circuit for the movie has also garnered attention. At the Mumbai trailer launch event on September 15, the cast humorously highlighted Sanya Malhotra’s absence by bringing a life-size cardboard cutout of the actor onto the stage.
