Superman Box Office Collection Day 2: James Gunn’s Hero Nears ₹20 Crore Mark in India

July 13, 2025: James Gunn’s much-anticipated Superman reboot starring David Corenswet is off to a powerful start at the global box office, pulling in impressive numbers across key territories and surpassing expectations.

Strong Global Debut

According to Deadline, the superhero film has grossed $56.5 million in North America and an additional $40 million from 78 international markets. The global total is expected to cross $210 million by the end of Sunday, boosted by strong critical reception and fan excitement.

Variety reports that Superman now holds the title of the second-biggest global opening of 2025, trailing behind A Minecraft Movie ($57.11 million) and narrowly edging out Lilo & Stitch ($55.94 million).

Mixed International Performance

While the film soared in some regions, results were mixed elsewhere. The UK opening was particularly strong, bringing in $3.6 million on Friday and capturing 66% of the market share. However, Asia saw softer numbers—Korea underperformed, and China managed $2.4 million by Friday, with projections estimating a final total of around $11 million.

Other notable figures include:

  • Mexico: $3.8 million (highest among international territories)
  • Brazil, France, Australia: $2.5–3 million each
  • Spain: $1 million
  • Japan: $781K (amid competition from Demon Slayer)

India Box Office and Local Impact

In India, Superman is off to a solid start, earning ₹8 crore on Day 1 and ₹9 crore on Day 2, for a two-day total of ₹17 crore. This makes it the third-biggest DC opening in India to date.

Its success has affected local releases, most notably:

  • Kannappa, the big-budget Telugu epic featuring Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, and Mohanlal, opened with promise (₹9.35 crore) but suffered a 92% drop in its second week. With a budget of ₹200 crore and a lifetime net of just ₹32.6 crore, it has emerged as one of the year’s biggest flops.
  • Rajkummar Rao’s Maalik has also lagged behind, collecting ₹3.75 crore on Day 1 and ₹5.25 crore on Day 2.

As Superman continues to dominate headlines and screens worldwide, its box office momentum shows no signs of slowing — giving DC Studios a much-needed win.
