Sutton Foster Part Ways With Husband Ted Griffin After 10 Years Of Marriage

October 24, 2024: Sutton Foster, the Tony Award-winning Broadway star, has filed for divorce from her husband, screenwriter Ted Griffin, after nearly 10 years of marriage.

Court documents reveal that Foster, 49, filed the divorce papers on October 22, 2023, in the New York County Supreme Court. The couple shares a 7-year-old daughter, Emily, whom they adopted.

During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Foster had spoken warmly about spending extended time with her family, as she, Griffin, and their daughter stayed outside of New York City. She shared how they had formed new routines, such as having breakfast and dinner together every day, making family time a priority. Foster recalled how her daughter would ask, “How was your day?” during their meals, emphasizing the closeness they built during that period.

In a 2021 essay for PEOPLE, Foster opened up about her journey to adoption and how meeting Griffin changed her outlook on family. Initially focused on her career and hesitant about motherhood due to a complicated relationship with her own mother, she found clarity after meeting Griffin. “When I met my husband, it was the first time that I finally went, ‘Oh, I get it. I understand why people have families,'” she wrote.

The couple, who married in Santa Barbara, California in October 2014, had been together for over a decade. They got engaged in August 2013, and their relationship marked a pivotal change in Foster’s personal life, especially in her decision to become a parent.

As of now, neither Foster nor Griffin has publicly commented on the reason for their split.
