Swami Chaitanyananda Withdraws Bail Plea, Legal Strategy Shifts to Awaiting Chargesheet
Self-styled godman Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati, who is currently in custody over allegations of molesting and sexually abusing at least 17 female students of a management institute, has withdrawn his bail plea before a Delhi Court.
The decision signals a shift in the defence’s legal strategy, which is now focused on scrutinizing the prosecution’s evidence.
Chaityananda’s lawyer confirmed the decision, stating they would wait for the police to file the chargesheet before deciding on the next course of action.
“They will wait for the chargesheet to examine the allegations against Chaityananda before deciding on future course of action,” the lawyer stated.
The police have indicated that they are likely to file the chargesheet in the matter soon.
Meanwhile, the police investigation continues to uncover more evidence against Chaityananda. Authorities have examined more witnesses, which has led to the recovery of further objectionable videos.
The evidence seized includes obscene messages purportedly sent by Chaityananda to the female students of the management institute in south Delhi. Chaityananda was the chairman of the institute before he was removed following the mass molestation allegations.
According to previous reports, Chaityananda, who also faces charges of fraud and forgery, was apprehended from a hotel in Agra after being on the run. Multiple victims have accused him of coercing them with threats of academic failure or promises of foreign trips. A Delhi court has noted that the gravity of the offense increases multifold due to the number of victims involved.
