Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried Psychological Thriller ‘The Housemaid’ Set For 2025 Christmas Release

December 20, 2024: Lionsgate has confirmed the release date for The Housemaid, a highly anticipated psychological thriller directed by Paul Feig and starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried. The film will hit theatres on December 25, 2025, just in time for the holiday season, offering a thrilling addition to the festive movie lineup.

Based on Freida McFadden’s best-selling novel, The Housemaid follows Millie (played by Sweeney), a woman who takes a job as a housemaid for a wealthy couple, Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew (Brandon Sklenar). What begins as a seemingly ordinary position soon takes a dark turn as Millie uncovers a web of dangerous secrets the couple is hiding. As the story unfolds, the suspense intensifies, drawing Millie deeper into a psychological battle that tests her wits and survival instincts.

Michele Morrone also stars in a key role, adding another layer of intrigue to the film. The movie is produced by Todd Lieberman for Hidden Pictures, alongside Paul Feig and Laura Fischer for Feigco. Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, Freida McFadden, and Alex Young will serve as executive producers.

The novel The Housemaid, published in 2022, was a runaway success, topping bestseller lists thanks to its gripping plot, shocking twists, and suspenseful storytelling. Fans of the book and newcomers alike are eagerly awaiting the adaptation, which promises to bring the tension and drama of the novel to life on the big screen.

With the release scheduled for December 25, 2025, The Housemaid will face stiff competition at the box office from major films such as Disney’s Avatar: Fire and Ash and Paramount’s The SpongeBob Movie: Search for Squarepants, both of which are also set to open around the same time. However, the strong cast, the intriguing storyline, and the directorial expertise of Paul Feig (known for his work on Bridesmaids and A Simple Favor) suggest that The Housemaid will be a strong contender for attention during the busy holiday movie season.

Fans of psychological thrillers, as well as those who loved the book, are sure to flock to theatres for this tense and thrilling ride.
