The boxing biopic Christy, starring Sydney Sweeney, has recorded a historic failure at the global box office, suffering the worst second-weekend drop of all time after an already dismal debut.

November 21, 2025: The box office woes for actress Sydney Sweeney have deepened significantly with her latest release, Christy. The biopic of trailblazing boxer Christy Martin has not only delivered one of the worst opening weekends for a wide Hollywood release but has followed it up with a catastrophic drop in its second week, setting an all-time industry record.

According to figures from Box Office Mojo, Christy earned a meager $1.3 million in its domestic opening weekend (November 7-9, 2025). However, the second weekend saw an unprecedented collapse, with the film bringing in only $108,000, marking a staggering 92% decline in collections. This devastating week-to-week drop is officially the worst on record for any film in Hollywood history.

The poor performance confirms a difficult run for the Euphoria star at the 2025 box office, following earlier underperformers like Eden and Americana.

Total Gross Stalls Under $2 Million

The film, which saw Sweeney gain over 40 lbs and undergo intensive training to portray the legendary boxer, has failed to connect with audiences despite a reported production budget of over $15 million.

As of November 20, the total domestic collection stands at a dismal $1.9 million. The overseas performance proved even more brutal:

  • International Opening: A minimal $14,000.
  • Second Weekend Overseas: The film added $0 to its total after being pulled from most international theaters immediately following its Monday grosses.

The worldwide gross for Christy remains stuck below $2 million, cementing it as a financial disaster unlikely to recover. Industry analysts had not anticipated the film to be a major tentpole, but the record-breaking fall indicates a total rejection by the moviegoing public.

The David Michôd-directed film, which tells the compelling and often harrowing story of Christy Martin’s rise in the 90s before her husband-turned-coach attempted to murder her, also stars Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, and Katy O’Brian.
