Tamil actor Srinivasan Arrested In Rs 1000 crore loan scam
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police has detained Tamil actor S. Srinivasan, better known by his screen name “Powerstar,” in connection with a loan fraud investigation that has been going on for a long time. The actor was arrested on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, after a 17-year legal fight and several times not showing up for court since 2018.
In December 2010, a group of consultants went to a business called M/s Blue Coast Infrastructure Development Ltd. about the matter. They promised to get a huge ₹1,000 crore loan for hotel and business investments, and they also introduced the company to Srinivasan. Srinivasan is said to have pretended to be the owner of M/s Baba Trading Company and said he was a long-time lender who could get the money.
The company that complained said that they paid Srinivasan a commission of ₹5 crore, which is a normal charge for buying “special adhesive stamps.” But the loan was never set up, and Srinivasan’s post-dated check for ₹5 crore rejected because there wasn’t enough money in the account. Investigators found that the ₹5 crore was sent to accounts owned by Srinivasan and his wife, who then used it for personal reasons and to make movies.
Srinivasan has been sued before in this matter. He was caught in 2013 and given temporary bail with a pledge to pay back ₹10 crore. However, he barely paid ₹3.5 lakh before fleeing into hiding. He was then called a “proclaimed offender” twice, once in 2016 and again in 2018 when he ran away from his trial.
Delhi Police say that they finally caught Srinivasan in a residence in Chennai. The EOW found out that the actor also had six previous fraud cases like this one against him in Chennai.
Srinivasan is a well-known actor in Tamil cinema, but he is also a doctor, politician, comedian, producer, singer, and businessman. He started out as an acupressure practitioner, then moved on to work in finance, and finally to the film industry, where he has been in movies like Lathika, Thalaivan, and Odu Raja Odu.
