July 19, 2025: Tanvi The Great Box Office Collection, marking veteran actor Anupam Kher’s return to direction after more than two decades, had a modest start at the Indian box office. Despite receiving international praise during its festival run, the film collected only ₹40 lakh on its opening day, according to early estimates from Sacnilk.com.

Released in cinemas on July 18, the film had an overall Hindi occupancy of 14.41% on Friday. The film marks the Bollywood debut of Shubhangi Dutt, who plays the title role of Tanvi — a neurodivergent girl with dreams of joining the Indian Army, inspired by the memory of her late father.

While Tanvi The Great has struggled commercially, it has earned appreciation for its emotional core and powerful performances. The film stars a stellar ensemble including Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Nasser, Arvind Swami, Karan Tacker, and British actor Iain Glen.

Produced by Anupam Kher Studios in association with NFDC, and distributed globally by Excel Entertainment (Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar) and AA Films (Anil Thadani), Tanvi The Great had its world premiere at international festivals in Cannes, New York, Houston, and London, where it reportedly received standing ovations.

The story follows Tanvi Raina (Shubhangi), who lives with her mother Vidya (Pallavi Joshi) and grandfather Colonel Pratap Raina (Anupam Kher). Despite her autism, Tanvi dreams of enlisting in the army, mirroring her father Samar Raina’s (Karan Tacker) legacy.

Special preview screenings were also held at the National Defence Academy and the Southern Command in Pune, where the film received a warm response.

Though the box office figures are underwhelming, Tanvi The Great remains a heartfelt tribute to resilience, familial bonds, and the spirit of service — even if its cinematic execution hasn’t fully resonated with the wider audience just yet.
