Emraan Hashmi-led thriller becomes first Indian series to rank No. 1 worldwide
January 22, 2026: Emraan Hashmi’s crime thriller Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web has created history by becoming the first Indian series to top Netflix’s Global Non-English TV rankings. According to data released by Netflix’s official platform Tudum, the show secured the number one position worldwide for the week of January 12 to 18, outperforming several popular international titles and marking a major milestone for Indian content on global streaming charts.
During the tracking period, Taskaree recorded 5.4 million views, surpassing Korean romantic comedy Can This Love Be Translated?, which logged 4 million views, along with other global hits such as Jujutsu Kaisen S3, Alpha Males, and The Queen of Flow. Notably, Taskaree was the only Indian show to feature in the global top ten list, underlining its exceptional international reach and audience appeal.
Reacting to the achievement, Emraan Hashmi said the response reaffirmed the power of sincere storytelling, while creator Neeraj Pandey called it a significant moment for Indian narratives on the world stage. Created by Pandey and co-directed by Raghav Jairath, the series delves into the high-risk world of customs officers at Mumbai airport battling an international smuggling network. With its global success, Taskaree has set a new benchmark for Indian web series on international OTT platforms.
