Taylor Russell Exits 'Thomas Crown Affair' Reboot Over Creative Clashes
July 20, 2025: Actress Taylor Russell has officially exited The Thomas Crown Affair, the upcoming reimagining of the heist classic being directed by Michael B. Jordan. According to Deadline, Russell’s departure stems from creative differences, and the production—which is currently underway in London—is now actively recasting her role.
Russell had been set to play the sharp insurance investigator who suspects a suave banking executive (played by Jordan) of masterminding elaborate heists. The character, originally portrayed by Faye Dunaway in the 1968 film opposite Steve McQueen, and later by Rene Russo in the 1999 remake alongside Pierce Brosnan, is central to the film’s cat-and-mouse romance.

Michael B. Jordan not only stars but also produces the film through his Outlier Society banner alongside Elizabeth Raposo, Charles Roven of Atlas Entertainment, and others. The script is penned by Drew Pearce, with earlier drafts from Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson. The legendary Alan Trustman, writer of the original 1968 screenplay, serves as an executive producer. The movie is scheduled for a theatrical release on March 5, 2027.
Taylor Russell has had a breakout run in recent years, earning accolades for her performances in Waves and Bones and All. She also made a strong impression on stage in Jamie Lloyd’s revival of The Effect. Her upcoming slate remains packed: she’ll star in Na Hong-jin’s Korean thriller Hope alongside Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander, in Frank Ocean’s mysterious directorial debut, and is reportedly in talks for a remake of Single White Female with Jenna Ortega.
