Taylor Swift Lashes Out at Being Subpoenaed in Blake Lively–Justin Baldoni Lawsuit
May 10, 2025: Los Angeles — Taylor Swift has officially been subpoenaed as a witness in the bitter legal dispute between actress Blake Lively and actor-director Justin Baldoni, stemming from their 2024 film It Ends With Us. But the global pop star isn’t staying silent.
“This subpoena is just a publicity stunt,” a spokesperson for Taylor Swift said in a statement released Friday. “Taylor never set foot on the set, had no role in casting or production, and saw the film weeks after its public release while she was on tour.”
Blake Lively filed a lawsuit in December 2024 against Baldoni, alleging sexual harassment, “disturbing” on-set behavior, and a retaliatory smear campaign. Baldoni denied all claims and in January 2025, filed a $400 million countersuit, accusing Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds of defamation and extortion.
While Swift is not a named defendant, Baldoni’s legal team claims she had a verbal influence on Lively’s script rewrites — allegedly validating Lively’s creative authority during a private meeting.
According to Swift’s team, her only involvement was licensing the song My Tears Ricochet for the film’s soundtrack — as did 19 other artists.
“This is a blatant attempt to misuse Taylor’s name to draw attention. It’s designed to create tabloid clickbait, not deliver justice,” her spokesperson added.
In legal filings, Baldoni recounts a 2024 meeting at Lively and Reynolds’ New York City penthouse. He allegedly left feeling that Swift and Reynolds’ endorsement of Lively’s changes subtly pressured him to comply.
A text message Baldoni sent Lively afterward reportedly read:
“I really love what you did. It really does help a lot… (And I would have felt that way without Ryan or Taylor).”
Lively responded by likening herself to Khaleesi, and called Swift and Reynolds her “dragons” and “stage moms.”
The dueling lawsuits are scheduled for trial in March 2026.
Though Swift has not commented publicly beyond her spokesperson’s statement, sources say Lively has apologized privately, and Swift is said to be “ready to move forward” with no hard feelings.
However, insiders warn that more high-profile names may be dragged into court — including Hugh Jackman, another close friend of the couple.
“Anyone with knowledge of the situation will be subpoenaed — celebrity or not,” a source told People magazine.
