
Telugu Anchor Swetcha Votarkar Dies by Suicide in Hyderabad; Father Files Complaint
Hyderabad | June 28, 2025: Telugu television journalist and anchor Swetcha Votarkar was found dead at her residence in Hyderabad on Friday night. The 40-year-old media professional allegedly died by suicide, according to the local police.

Swetcha was reportedly discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in her home. The police have registered a case based on a complaint filed by her father, who has named an individual he believes is responsible for his daughter’s tragic death. The identity of the person named has not been disclosed yet, and investigations are underway.

Swetcha V, a respected name in Telugu media, was known for her bold and incisive journalism. She worked with several prominent channels over the course of her career and was also known for her writing and social engagement.
BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao expressed his grief on social media platform X (formerly Twitter):
“Deeply saddened to hear about the unfortunate demise of Swetcha Votarkar, a fierce journalist, writer, and a dedicated Telanganite. I am at a loss for words.”
He also used the occasion to highlight the importance of mental health, urging people in distress to seek professional help.
“To everyone reading this — if you ever feel that life is tough, please don’t hesitate to reach out to a professional. Life is meant to be lived and there is always support available,” he added.
Swetcha’s death has sent shockwaves through the Telugu media fraternity and sparked renewed conversations about the mental health challenges faced by journalists and public figures.
