Thamma Box Office Day 2: Ayushmann Khurrana And Rashmika Mandanna Film Mints THIS Amount

Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s film Thamma shows its box office might, Cementing its place as a horror-comedy favorite.

October 23, 2025: The latest offering from the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU), Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, has hit the ground running, collecting a robust ₹42 crore net in India over its first two days. The strong performance positions the film for an excellent run through the extended festive week.

Released on Tuesday (Diwali), the film capitalized on the holiday rush, securing an impressive opening day collection of ₹24 crore net, with the Hindi version contributing ₹23.75 crore. On its second day (Wednesday), the film witnessed an expected post-holiday drop, yet managed to hold steady, adding an estimated ₹18 crore to its total domestic haul.

Breaking Records for Khurrana and MHCU

Thamma has not only delivered a great start for the Dinesh Vijan-led banner but also marked a career high for its lead star. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirmed the film is:

  • Ayushmann Khurrana’s Biggest Opener to Date, comfortably surpassing his previous best, Dream Girl 2 (₹10.69 crore).
  • The Second-Highest Opener in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU), trailing only behind the highly-anticipated sequel Stree 2.
  • The Third-Highest Opener for Maddock Films overall, following Stree 2 and Chhaava.

Adarsh praised the film’s pan-India acceptance and noted that its strong start “busts a lot of myths that people only want to see sequels and remakes and big superstar movies on Diwali.”

Steady Occupancy Predicts Strong Weekend

Despite the drop in earnings, audience attendance showed a healthy upward trend throughout Wednesday. The film started the day with 10.21% occupancy during morning shows, which surged to 29.47% in the afternoon and peaked at 32.25% by night shows, indicating positive word-of-mouth.

The holiday on Thursday (Bhai Dooj) is expected to help Thamma maintain its momentum before the conventional weekend begins. Analysts predict an “excellent total” for the extended opening period, setting the horror-comedy up for a successful theatrical run.

While the film received mixed-to-negative reviews, including a 3-star rating from News18 Showsha which called the storytelling “curiously restrained,” the audience response has been overwhelmingly positive, proving that the blend of horror, comedy, and the lure of the MHCU franchise has worked its charm.
