‘The Apprentice’ Director Ali Abbasi Apologises After Groping Allegations, Denies Being Dropped By Agencies

February 23, 2025: Filmmaker Ali Abbasi, known for his recent work on The Apprentice, is no longer represented by his US-based talent agencies, Creative Artists Agency (CAA) and Management 360, after allegations surfaced that he groped an A-list actor. However, Abbasi has denied that the allegations were the reason for his departure from the agencies.

According to reports from PEOPLE, Abbasi admitted to making an “over-familiar gesture” during a Golden Globes party, describing it as a “slap on the rear.” He clarified that the gesture was intended to be playful and not sexual, but acknowledged that it made the actor uncomfortable.

“I fully understand that my action made someone uncomfortable, regardless of my intent, and for that, I am truly sorry,” Abbasi said in a statement. He went on to explain that he had spent time with the actor on multiple occasions and believed they shared a friendly relationship. The incident occurred at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, and Abbasi quickly apologized to the actor in person, and through his representatives the next day.

Despite reports suggesting that the incident was the cause of his split from the agencies, Abbasi denied this connection. He insisted that his decision to part ways with CAA and Management 360 was a long-term career choice and not motivated by the controversy.

“The suggestion that I was dropped by my representation due to this interaction is false,” Abbasi said, adding, “I made a mistake, I apologized, and have learned a valuable life lesson.”

Abbasi’s latest film, The Apprentice, has garnered significant attention during this awards season, receiving Golden Globe and Oscar nominations for lead actor Sebastian Stan and supporting actor Jeremy Strong. The film, which explores the early years of US President Donald Trump’s business career, has been praised for its compelling performances and historical insights.

Despite the controversy, Abbasi expressed gratitude for the work of the The Apprentice cast and crew, stating that he hoped the focus would remain on their achievements.
