‘The Batman Part II’ Gets Official Release Date: Matt Reeves Shares Script Update
Los Angeles | June 28, 2025 — After months of speculation and silence, filmmaker Matt Reeves has finally confirmed that The Batman Part II is officially back on track. The long-awaited sequel will hit theatres on October 1, 2027, more than five years after the original film’s release.

Reeves, who helmed the 2022 dark and gritty take on Gotham’s caped crusader, shared an image of the completed script on Instagram. Captioned “Partners in Crime (Fighters)” and tagged with co-writer Mattson Tomlin, the photo showed a blurred title page but prominently displayed the Batman logo—enough to reignite fan excitement.
While the post offered no plot details, it was confirmation enough that the story is moving forward. Tomlin, who previously worked with Reeves on the first film, returns to co-write the sequel under DC’s Elseworlds banner—keeping this iteration of Batman distinct from James Gunn’s new DC Universe.
Responding to fan frustration over delays, DC Studios co-head James Gunn urged fans to let the creative process unfold naturally. “Let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs… You like his movie because of Matt, so let Matt do things the way he does,” Gunn told Entertainment Weekly.
Although casting confirmations are yet to be made, Robert Pattinson is widely expected to return as the brooding Bruce Wayne. His portrayal in the first film was lauded for its noir-inspired style, emotional depth, and grounded realism.
As the sequel is set outside the main DCU continuity, Reeves has full creative liberty to explore his Gotham without crossovers or studio interference.
With the script locked and the release date now official, fans have a clear milestone to anticipate. The road to 2027 may be long, but Gotham’s return under Matt Reeves’ vision is officially underway.
