July 9, 2025: As James Gunn’s Superman prepares to launch a bold new chapter for DC Studios, another caped crusader is quietly gearing up in the shadows. On the red carpet at the Superman world premiere, Gunn confirmed he’s read Matt Reeves’ script for The Batman Part II — and gave it a glowing one-word review: “It’s great.”
This comes after Reeves recently teased fans with a photo of the script’s cover page, featuring the iconic Batman symbol. While Reeves’ Batman universe exists outside Gunn’s upcoming “Gods and Monsters” DCU slate, the projects continue to generate parallel buzz among fans.

Gunn, who previously urged fans to be patient — or in his words, to “get off Matt’s nuts” — about the delay in the Batman sequel, finally addressed the anticipation. He reassured audiences that the wait would be worth it.
Originally slated for release in 2026, The Batman Part II is now scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027, following a year-long delay. But Reeves confirmed earlier this year that filming will begin in 2025.
“We’re doing something where the story continues from [the first], but I hope that people will be surprised by it,” Reeves told Deadline.
Matt Reeves‘ Batman universe launched in 2022 with The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, and later expanded through the Max spin-off series The Penguin, further exploring the gritty crime underworld of Gotham.
With Gunn’s Superman ushering in a new DCU era and Reeves building his own dark corner of Gotham, DC fans are in for two wildly different — but equally compelling — takes on their favorite heroes.
