‘The Devil Wears Prada’ Sequel Gets May 2026 Release Date: Miranda Priestly Is Back in Business
Fashionistas, rejoice!
Disney has officially confirmed the theatrical release date for the much-anticipated sequel to The Devil Wears Prada. The follow-up to the beloved 2006 comedy will hit theaters on May 1, 2026, nearly two decades after the original captivated audiences.
While reports last year suggested that Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt would reprise their iconic roles, no cast members have been officially confirmed by the studio. Speaking to Variety, Stanley Tucci, who portrayed the stylish and savvy Nigel in the original, teased: “I know they’re working on it. If it happens, I would be so happy, but I cannot give you any information. Otherwise, I’ll go to the actor’s prison or something. [The original] was one of the best experiences ever.”
Based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 best-selling novel, The Devil Wears Prada told the story of Andrea Sachs (Anne Hathaway), an aspiring journalist who lands a job at the fictional Runway magazine under the fearsome editrix Miranda Priestly (Streep), widely believed to be inspired by Vogue’s Anna Wintour. Blunt starred as Miranda’s overworked first assistant, while Tucci played Nigel, the Runway veteran who helped transform Andy into a fashion insider — one pair of Chanel boots at a time.
What’s the Sequel About?
The new chapter reportedly picks up in the modern media landscape, with Miranda Priestly navigating the challenges of a declining print industry. Meanwhile, Emily Blunt’s character — once Miranda’s stressed-out assistant — is now a powerful executive at a luxury brand, holding the advertising purse strings that Priestly’s publication desperately needs. The stage is set for a high-fashion power clash between mentor and mentee in a world driven by digital disruption, influencer culture, and cutthroat competition.
Part of Disney’s Wider Slate Shuffle
The announcement of The Devil Wears Prada 2 came amid a larger reshuffling of Disney’s theatrical calendar. Alongside delays for major Marvel releases like Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, the studio also dated Ridley Scott’s upcoming sci-fi thriller The Dog Stars (starring Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin, and Margaret Qualley) for March 27, 2026.
Additionally, Disney has scheduled an IMAX 3D re-release of Avatar: The Way of Water on October 3, 2026, leading into the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash on December 19 — continuing its tradition of building anticipation through theatrical reissues.
Whether or not the full original cast returns, fans of fashion, film, and fierce dialogue are sure to flock to theaters for another round of designer drama, sharp wit, and iconic one-liners. Because in Miranda Priestly’s world — fashion never fades.
