“The film is connected to our mythology”: Abhinay Deo on ‘Savi’

Director Abhinay Deo is all set to release his upcoming film ‘Savi’, featuring Anil Kapoor, Divya Khosla, and Harshvardhan Rane in the lead roles. In an interview, Abhinay shared insights about the film and its connection to mythology.

“When I read this script, I realized that it is connected to the Savitri Puran from our mythology. She fought with Lord Yamraj (God of Death) and took away her husband’s departed soul. This film is also about a woman who is forced to take action after her husband is imprisoned for a crime he did not commit,” Abhinay explained.

He continued, “Every woman is much more powerful than men. They have an inner strength that they recognize at certain times, whether at home or in their profession.”

Talking about the film ‘Savi’, Abhinay described it as “a story about a simple girl with aspirations for a good man, a good family, and a well-settled home. But at some point in her life, she needs to take action for her husband’s justice.”

Abhinay also shared his views on the terms ‘Homemaker’ and ‘Housewife’. He prefers ‘Homemaker’ as it better represents the role, stating, “People are confused about which woman to call a housewife – the one living in a house or the one doing household chores to support her husband.”

Regarding casting Anil Kapoor, Abhinay said, “Anil sir is the best for this role as the character is very powerful and interesting.” He added that Divya Khosla is perfect for the role of Savi due to her simplicity and vulnerability.

Recently, the official trailer of ‘Savi’ was unveiled. It showcases Divya’s character, Savi, a housewife forced to take action after her husband, played by Harshvardhan, is imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. Anil Kapoor’s character assists her in breaking into the prison and rescuing her husband from emerging death threats.

The film was initially titled ‘Savi: A Bloody Housewife’. The poster depicts two sides of Divya’s character – one with an innocent smile and the other with a gun in her hand.

The teaser opens with Divya’s bold confession about breaking someone out of a high-security prison in London, setting the stage for an intense and action-packed story.

Directed by Abhinay Deo, ‘Savi’ is slated to hit cinemas on May 31, 2024.
