The Hunting Wives Netflix: Cast and Crew Eager for Season 2

July 29, 2025: Netflix’s latest mystery thriller, The Hunting Wives, has thrown viewers into the dark underbelly of Maple Brook, Texas, an apparently lovely Southern town with a surprising murder issue. The six-part series is based on May Cobb’s 2021 novel and follows a complicated story of many murders, all involving wealthy women who carry guns.

The main character is Margo (Malin Åkerman), who is married to oil millionaire and gubernatorial candidate Jed (Dermot Mulroney). They have an open marriage. Sophie (Brittany Snow), a newcomer from Cambridge, Massachusetts, enters their world. She quickly becomes part of Margo’s elite, “MAGA-coded” circle and starts a passionate romance with Margo herself. As the sexual relationships get more complicated, so do the deaths, which leads to a thrilling cliffhanger at the end that has fans begging for a second season.

The characters and crimes are made up, but author May Cobb, who is also an executive producer on the program, got the idea from her own life in Texas. Åkerman told Town & Country recently that talking to Cobb about the ladies she met was “informative for our characters.” Rebecca Cutter, the show’s creator, and Cobb also made alterations to the book on purpose to surprise fans.

Netflix, which bought the series from Starz earlier this summer, has yet to confirm if The Hunting Wives will return. But the actors and crew have made it obvious that they want a second chapter. Before the show came out, Åkerman told Decider that she was nervous and really wanted a second season because she loved the actors and staff. In an interview with Collider, Snow shared similar excitement, pointing that the interesting finale of Season 1 and the numerous unsolved topics that Cutter plans to look into in a possible Season 2.

What might happen in Season 2?

If Netflix gives Cutter the go-ahead, she plans to have “a little bit of a time jump—not a year, but a time” between seasons, as she told Variety. Cutter said that Season 2 would still be propelled by “the two engines of the show”: a “whodunit” and the changing “Margo/Sophie relationship.” However, he did not give any particular story information. She said, “The first thing I think about is where these two women are at the beginning.” Where do they end up? What are the highs and lows of each person’s power and their relationship? So it’s keeping an eye on that and then figuring out what the crime engine is.

Fans can count on another murder mystery at the center of the “crime engine,” but don’t expect Cutter to give anything away just yet! “I don’t know whodunit yet or who got done!” she said with a laugh.
