The Mass is Back! Rajinikanth Greeted with Roaring Cheers on Coolie Sets: Watch

May 24, 2025: Rajinikanth’s highly anticipated film Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is slated for release on August 14, coinciding with the Independence Day weekend.

To build hype, the makers recently dropped new footage showcasing intense action scenes and behind-the-scenes glimpses of Rajinikanth interacting with fans. Alongside the teaser, the song ‘Coolie Powerhouse’ was launched on various audio platforms, energizing fans ahead of the big day. The teaser post featured the Tamil caption: “Engengum Koraeyathu Mass,” meaning “Mass will never go low.”

In an interview with Sudhir Srinivasan, director Lokesh Kanagaraj expressed deep admiration for Rajinikanth, saying the superstar profoundly impacted him emotionally and creatively. “He made me think about life… I cried, I laughed. Every day was a learning experience,” Lokesh shared.

Coolie is an action entertainer where Rajinikanth takes on a negative-shade role. The film also stars Nagarjuna Akkineni, Upendra Rao, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj, and Soubin Shahir. Bollywood star Aamir Khan features in a cameo. The soundtrack is composed by Anirudh Ravichander.

The release date places Coolie in direct competition with Ayan Mukerji’s War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, promising an exciting battle at the box office.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is already shooting for Jailer 2 directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. He will reprise his role as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, with Nandamuri Balakrishna in an extended cameo, alongside returning stars Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar.
