The Sabarmati Report Box Office Collection Day 4: Slips on Monday, Total Earnings Reach ₹7.45 Crore

November 20, 2024: Vikrant Massey’s latest film, The Sabarmati Report, saw a significant dip in collections on its first Monday after a decent weekend performance. The film, which highlights the 2002 Sabarmati Express tragedy and its aftermath, has managed to collect ₹7.45 crore net in India so far, as per early estimates by Sacnilk.com.

Box Office Performance
After earning ₹1.25 crore on its opening day, the film picked up over the weekend with ₹2.1 crore on Saturday and ₹3 crore on Sunday. However, Monday’s collection dropped to ₹1.10 crore, signaling a decline in momentum. With an overall Hindi occupancy of 16.04% on Monday, the film failed to surpass the first Monday earnings of 12th Fail—Vikrant Massey’s previous film—which earned ₹1.5 crore on the same day.

The Story Behind the Film
Directed by Dheeraj Sarna, The Sabarmati Report delves into the 2002 Godhra tragedy, focusing on the burning of the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express near Godhra station on February 27, 2002. The tragedy ignited widespread communal riots in Gujarat, and the film explores the ideological clash between traditional Hindi journalists and the Westernized perspectives of English-speaking reporters.

Produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, Amul V Mohan, and Anshul Mohan, the film stars Vikrant Massey, Ridhi Dogra, and Raashii Khanna in lead roles. Released in theaters last Friday, it combines investigative reporting with the socio-political dynamics of the time.

Special Screening and Audience Reaction
On Monday, a special screening of The Sabarmati Report was held in Mumbai, attended by Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, along with Vikrant Massey. The actor expressed gratitude for the audience turnout, stating, “The experience was amazing. The cinema hall was housefull. It was heartening to see so many people come to watch the film.”

Despite the star-studded promotions and powerful storyline, the film faces stiff competition at the box office. With its current trajectory, The Sabarmati Report will need strong word-of-mouth to sustain its run in the coming days.
