‘The Sabarmati Report’: UP CM Yogi Adityanath Declares Film Tax-Free In State

November 21, 2024: The Sabarmati Report, a recently released Hindi film based on the 2002 Godhra train burning incident, has been making waves with its sensitive portrayal of a tragic event in India’s history. Directed by Dheeraj Sarna, the film delves into the real-life events surrounding the burning of the Sabarmati Express in Godhra, Gujarat, which resulted in the deaths of 59 people. The film has garnered attention not only for its gripping narrative but also for the support it has received from various political figures.

In a notable move, the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has declared the film tax-free in the state, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attending the screening and praising the cast, particularly actor Vikrant Massey. Yogi Adityanath expressed gratitude for the efforts of the team behind the film, stating that it sheds light on the truth of the Godhra incident and the divisive forces at play during that time. He emphasized that the film would be promoted more by making it tax-free in UP, with the intention of ensuring that the public knows the true story.

Similarly, Haryana’s Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also declared the film tax-free in his state, calling it a dignified portrayal of the tragic event. He commended the filmmakers for their sensitivity in handling the subject matter, which serves as a tribute to the 59 people who lost their lives in the incident.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in response to a social media post, also praised the film, highlighting the importance of bringing the truth to light. His comment, which appeared on the platform X, echoed the sentiments of other leaders, stressing that the narrative surrounding the Godhra incident has been shaped by both truth and fiction over time. By showcasing this truth, the film aims to offer a more accurate understanding of what transpired during that tragic event.

The film features Vikrant Massey in a leading role, with Raashii Khanna and Ridhi Dogra also playing pivotal characters. Produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, Amul V Mohan, and Anshul Mohan, The Sabarmati Report is a reflection of the ongoing efforts to re-examine and understand the complexities of historical events through cinema.

This film is significant not only for its subject matter but also for the attention it has received from political leaders, signaling its potential impact on public perception of a critical chapter in India’s history.
