The Suicide Squad’ Star Daniela Melchior Joins Cast of Mystery Thriller ‘American Sweatshop

Daniela Melchior, best known for her portrayal of Cleo Cazo in the DC film The Suicide Squad, is set to join the cast of the upcoming mystery thriller American Sweatshop. The film, which stars Lili Reinhart, will be directed by Uta Briesewitz and produced by industry veterans Barry Levinson and Tom Fontana, as reported by Deadline.

American Sweatshop delves into the dark underbelly of social media, following the story of Daisy Moriarty, played by Reinhart. Despite her chaotic personal life, Daisy finds herself increasingly immersed in the disturbing world of online content moderation. Working with a quirky team in a cottage industry setup, Daisy reviews provocative and often dangerous images and videos flagged for review on social media platforms. The team handles the relentless influx of content with a mix of detached professionalism and warped humor.

However, Daisy’s life takes a dramatic turn when she becomes obsessed with holding someone accountable after encountering a particularly graphic video. This obsession pulls her away from the safety of her computer screen and into a perilous real-world scenario.

Daniela Melchior’s addition to the cast is highly anticipated, following her recent roles in major films. She recently starred alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in the action-packed film Road House, which debuted in March and quickly broke streaming records, leading to the announcement of a sequel.

Melchior first gained widespread recognition with her breakout role in The Suicide Squad. Since then, she has continued to build her career with key roles in blockbuster films such as Fast X and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Looking ahead, Melchior will also begin production on Balls Up, a new film from Amazon MGM Studios starring Mark Wahlberg, according to Deadline.

With American Sweatshop, Melchior is poised to continue her impressive trajectory in Hollywood, taking on roles that challenge both her versatility and depth as an actor. The film’s exploration of the psychological and societal impacts of social media promises to be a gripping addition to the mystery thriller genre.
