The Trial Season 2 Review: Kajol Excels The Role, Cinematography and Script Fall Flat
Kajol shines as a tenacious lawyer, but a distracting cinematic style and a faltering script make this legal drama a less-than-immersive experience.
September 19, 2025: Today is the first day of streaming for the second season of The Trial. Kajol plays Noyonika Sengupta again. Noyonika is now a stronger and more confident lawyer who handles high-profile cases while battling with the ghosts of her past. This season starts where the first season ended.
The drama is modeled on the American TV show The Good Wife and follows Noyonika as she tries to balance her work and personal lives. Her job is going well, but her marriage to Rajiv (Jisshu Sengupta) is breaking apart, and she is contemplating about obtaining a divorce. Rajiv, who wants to get back into politics, seeks her for professional counsel, which makes things much worse between them.
The actors from the first season, such as Jisshu Sengupta, Alyy Khan, Sheeba Chaddha, Kubbra Sait, and Gaurav Pandey, are back. This season, Sonali Kulkarni and Karanvir Sharma also play new characters.
People like the show because it has a superb cast, notably Kajol’s performance, but they don’t like the narrative or the photography. The review notes that even though the performances are outstanding, the show often feels more like a show than an experience that pulls you in. For instance, a lot of lawsuits are settled without the dramatic courtroom drama that people may expect.
You can now watch Season 2 of The Trial on JioHotstar. People who haven’t seen the first season should watch it first to understand the complete story.
