The Witcher Season 4: Liam Hemsworth Takes Over as Geralt, Netflix Confirms October 30 Premiere
Los Angeles, September 14 — The wait is finally over for The Witcher fans. Netflix has unveiled the first official footage of Liam Hemsworth stepping into the role of Geralt of Rivia, marking the beginning of a new era for the fantasy drama. The platform also confirmed that Season 4 will premiere on October 30.
This marks the first time fans are seeing Hemsworth as the White Wolf, three years after Henry Cavill announced his departure from the role that made him a fan-favorite.
According to Netflix’s official description, Season 4 will pick up after the Continent-shaking events of the previous chapter. Geralt, Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), and Ciri (Freya Allan) find themselves torn apart by war and hunted by countless enemies. Each character embarks on a separate path, encountering unexpected allies who could help them survive. The bigger question remains: can they find their way back to each other?
The new season will feature eight episodes, consistent with previous installments. Behind the camera, showrunner and executive producer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich returns, joined by directors Sergio Mimica-Gezzan, Tricia Brock, Alex Garcia Lopez, and Jeremy Webb.
Netflix has already confirmed that The Witcher will conclude with Season 5. Hissrich teased that Seasons 4 and 5 will form a two-part saga:
“This is the beginning of a two-season journey for our family to finally reunite and be together — hopefully forever.”
When Cavill announced his exit, he shared a heartfelt farewell with fans:
“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4. In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this fascinating character.”
Hemsworth, in turn, expressed his gratitude and excitement:
“Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins. I may have big boots to fill, but I’m over the moon to join The Witcher world. Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character.”
Though fans will miss Cavill in The Witcher, he’s not done with epic fantasy. He is currently preparing for a remake of Highlander. However, production has been delayed to 2026 following a recent injury.
