June 30, 2025: Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and his wife Sanjana Ganesan have shared the heartfelt and humorous story of their secret engagement during the IPL 2020 season in the UAE, amid strict COVID-19 bio-bubbles.

In a candid conversation with Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra, Bumrah detailed how he coordinated a “bubble-to-bubble” transfer to surprise Sanjana — then a presenter with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) — while he was playing for the Mumbai Indians (MI).

“I had brought a ring and hoped to propose after the tournament, but thanks to the bubbles, we couldn’t meet off the field. I had to tell IPL officials about my plan and request a bubble transfer. Luckily, it was arranged,” Bumrah recalled.

Once she arrived, the fast bowler went full DIY — setting up the cake, lighting candles on the balcony, and preparing the room for the proposal.

“I decorated the room myself. I even lit candles on the balcony, but the wind kept blowing them out. It was a struggle!” Bumrah laughed.

Sanjana Ganesan offered her perspective:

“I entered the room and he kept saying ‘balcony mein chalo’ (come to the balcony). I was like — I just walked in, can I at least get some water first?”

The couple tied the knot in 2021 and welcomed their son Angad in 2023.

Bumrah’s England Tour and Selection Speculation

Currently, Bumrah and Sanjana are in England, where India are playing a five-Test series under the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Despite being India’s best bowler in the first Test at Headingley, Bumrah couldn’t prevent a defeat on Day 5.

With a packed schedule and player workload concerns, there is speculation over whether Bumrah will feature in the second Test in Birmingham, or be rested to manage fitness over the long series.
