This is Why Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds Chose to Skip Met Gala 2025

The Hollywood power couple was notably absent from fashion’s biggest night as Blake Lively remains embroiled in a high-stakes lawsuit against her It Ends With Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni.

The 2025 Met Gala unfolded in grand style at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 5 — but without the sparkle of one of its most beloved power couples. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds skipped this year’s fashion spectacle, opting to remain out of the spotlight amid Blake’s ongoing legal feud with actor-director Justin Baldoni.

While the couple has not officially commented on their absence, their decision comes at a time when Lively is engaged in a serious legal battle. In December, she filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, her It Ends With Us co-star and director, accusing him of sexual harassment and retaliation. Baldoni has denied the charges and responded with a $400 million defamation countersuit, which Lively has contested.

Despite staying away from the Met steps, the Gossip Girl alum hasn’t completely withdrawn from public life. Just last month, she attended the TIME100 Gala with Reynolds by her side, where she was named one of TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2025. During her speech, Lively reflected on the weight of influence, saying, “What we stand for and what we stay silent about matters.”

Though Blake is no stranger to the Met Gala — having attended 10 times since her 2008 debut — she and Ryan were also absent from last year’s “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” themed event. Her absence this year, however, comes at a far more controversial time in her life and career.

As Lively and Reynolds stayed out of view, the blue carpet dazzled with appearances by Zendaya, Rihanna, Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, and Kendall and Kylie Jenner. Yet, the absence of Blake’s signature high-fashion presence was certainly felt.
