This Is Why ‘Kalki 2’ Shoot Gets Delayed!

June 6, 2025: After the resounding success of Kalki 2898 AD, fans were ecstatic when the makers confirmed a sequel. The ambitious sci-fi mythological epic, which stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, won praise for its world-building and visual spectacle. Now, all eyes are on Kalki 2, which promises to further explore the dystopian world and the prophecy of Lord Vishnu’s final avatar.

However, fresh reports suggest the sequel may face some delays—primarily due to Prabhas’ packed shooting schedule. The actor is currently committed to two major projects: The Raja Saab and Fauji, making it difficult to lock shooting dates for Kalki 2. Director Nag Ashwin had previously indicated that filming for the sequel was expected to begin this year, but that timeline now appears uncertain.

Meanwhile, speculation has intensified around Deepika Padukone’s involvement in the sequel. A report claims that Deepika may be removed or see a reduced role in Kalki 2. The reason? Reportedly, the new mom has requested shorter working hours and made specific demands regarding her salary and profit share—requests that are allegedly creating friction with the film’s makers.

This isn’t the first time such rumors have surfaced. Earlier, similar claims were made regarding Deepika’s removal from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s upcoming film Spirit, also starring Prabhas. While there’s been no official word from either Deepika’s team or the Kalki producers, the buzz has left fans concerned and curious about how the sequel will shape up.

In Kalki 2898 AD, Deepika played SUM-80, a mysterious pregnant woman believed to be carrying the next divine incarnation. Her role was pivotal to the story’s mythology. The sequel is expected to further explore the conflict between Supreme Yaskin (played by Kamal Haasan), Bhairava (Prabhas), and Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan) as they protect her unborn child.

As of now, no formal announcement has been made about casting changes. But if these reports hold true, Kalki 2 may move in a different creative direction—or face significant rewrites.
