November 13, 2024: Actress Rupali Ganguly has taken legal action against her stepdaughter, Esha Verma, demanding Rs 50 crore in defamation damages. According to Ganguly’s lawyer, Sana Raees Khan, the hefty sum reflects the severe damage inflicted on Rupali’s personal and professional reputation due to Esha’s “baseless allegations.” In an interview, Khan explained, “This figure represents the emotional, reputational, and career impact of the false statements made against Rupali.”
Esha Verma, the daughter of Rupali’s husband Ashwin Verma from his previous marriage, had publicly accused Rupali of physically assaulting her mother and causing distress in her family. Esha’s social media posts detailed alleged incidents, including claims of Rupali’s interference in her parents’ marriage and physical altercations. However, since receiving the defamation notice, Esha has deleted her social media accounts and removed the posts in question.
The legal notice, issued by Ganguly’s legal team, mentions the mental trauma Rupali endured due to these accusations, including humiliation on set and lost career opportunities. Initially, Rupali chose to stay silent, but she was compelled to act when Esha allegedly involved her 11-year-old son, Rudransh, in the matter.
The public feud stems from years of family turmoil, with Esha accusing both her father and stepmother of causing emotional distress. Esha, now residing in the U.S., has been vocal about her experiences with her father’s remarriage, which she claims caused a rift in her family.
