This Was David Warner’s Hefty Fees for Acting Debut in Telugu Film Robinhood-Watch Trailer Featuring Him

The Australian cricketer plays a key cameo in Robinhood starring Nithiin and Sreeleela, marking his first appearance on the big screen.

March 28, 2025: Australian cricketer David Warner has officially made his acting debut in Telugu cinema with Robinhood, directed by Venky Kudumula and starring Nithiin and Sreeleela. The film hit theatres on March 28, just ahead of the Ugadi festival, and generated buzz not only for its cast but also for Warner’s surprising cameo.

According to a report by OTT Play, Warner was paid a staggering ₹3 crore for his brief but significant role in the film. He reportedly shot his scenes during the IPL 2024 season while in India.

The cameo was kept under wraps until Mythri Movie Makers’ Ravi Shankar confirmed Warner’s involvement earlier this month. Warner then flew to Hyderabad to promote the film, attending pre-release events and even creating fun Instagram reels with the lead cast.

However, the promotional events weren’t without controversy. Veteran actor Rajendra Prasad made comments at one of the events that many perceived as insulting towards Warner. Following backlash, Prasad issued a public apology, referring to Warner as “like my son.”

About Robinhood

This marks director Venky Kudumula’s third directorial venture after Chalo (2018) and Bheeshma (2020). Interestingly, Rashmika Mandanna—who starred in both previous films—was originally roped in for the lead role in Robinhood, but had to step out due to date conflicts. Sreeleela eventually took over the role.

The film’s music is composed by GV Prakash Kumar, and it features a supporting cast that includes Rajendra Prasad, Vennela Kishore, Shine Tom Chacko, and Devdatta Nage. The film also drew criticism for its item song Adhi Dha Surprisu featuring Ketika Sharma, with many calling out the choreography.

Robinhood has opened to mixed reviews, but Warner’s presence has certainly added to the film’s visibility and promotional mileage.
