Three Years After Moosewala’s Death, His Father Steps Into Politics for 'Justice'
May 28, 2025: Balkaur Singh, father of the late Punjabi singer and politician Sidhu Moosewala, has announced his foray into politics. Singh will contest the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections from the Mansa constituency — the same seat his son once contested. The announcement comes just days before the third anniversary of Moosewala’s assassination on May 29, 2022.

In a heartfelt declaration, Balkaur Singh said his decision stems from a deep desire to secure justice for his son, Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu — popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala — who was shot dead in broad daylight. Singh criticised the current Punjab government and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for failing to bring all of the accused to justice and for what he described as a “deteriorating law and order situation” in the state.
“Even after three years, many of the culprits are still roaming free,” Singh said. “We have been patient, but it is clear that those in power are not interested in delivering justice. I am stepping into politics not for power, but to be the voice of those being silenced — and to protect the Constitution.”
Sidhu Moosewala had contested the 2022 Assembly elections from Mansa on a Congress ticket but lost. His father’s decision to contest from the same constituency is seen as a symbolic gesture — a continuation of Moosewala’s unfulfilled political journey.
Balkaur Singh, 60, and his wife Charan Kaur, 58, recently welcomed a baby boy via IVF on March 17 last year, nearly two years after losing their only son. The announcement of Singh’s political aspirations has stirred debate online, with many praising his determination while others accuse him of using his son’s fame for political traction.
Regardless, Singh’s entry into politics signals a new chapter in Punjab’s political landscape, especially for the Mansa constituency, which now holds emotional and political significance in equal measure.
