With a 21-day India gross of ₹125 crore, Mohanlal’s ‘Thudarum’ overtakes ‘L2: Empuraan’ to claim the No. 2 spot, trailing only ‘Manjummel Boys’. The global box office run now targets the top Malayalam crown.
Kochi, May 17 – Malayalam cinema continues its box office boom as Mohanlal’s ‘Thudarum’ achieves a new milestone. The Tharun Moorthy-directed thriller has officially outgrossed L2: Empuraan in India, becoming the second-highest domestic grosser in Mollywood history.

After 21 days in theatres, Thudarum has amassed an estimated ₹125 crore gross in India, edging past Empuraan’s ₹124.50 crore tally. The only film ahead now is Manjummel Boys, which leads with ₹167.50 crore.
The film had earlier created history as the first Malayalam movie to cross ₹100 crore in Kerala alone, underscoring its phenomenal local reception. Since its release on April 25, Thudarum has dominated the box office with remarkable consistency, maintaining strong weekday and weekend collections.
Global Domination In Sight
Thudarum has now collected approximately ₹215 crore worldwide, including ₹90 crore from overseas markets, making it the third Malayalam film to breach the ₹200 crore global mark. It’s also the second-fastest to do so, behind only Empuraan (₹267 crore) and Manjummel Boys (₹241 crore).
With momentum still in its favor, industry trackers suggest Thudarum could potentially overtake Manjummel Boys and claim the No. 1 all-time position in Mollywood’s box office history—depending on its performance in the next 7–10 days.
