‘Thunderbolts’ Still Going Strong! On Track to Crush Another MCU Bomb

May 14, 2025: Marvel Studios’ latest film, Thunderbolts, is showing promising staying power at the North American box office, despite recent struggles for the MCU. On its 11th day, the Florence Pugh and Sebastian Stan-led superhero film pulled in a solid $2.7 million on its second Monday — a better performance than several recent Marvel outings.

According to trade analyst Luiz Fernando, Thunderbolts outpaced the second Monday numbers of Eternals ($1.7M), Captain America: Brave New World ($1.8M), and closely matched The Incredible Hulk ($2.6M), showing only a 46% drop from its first Monday — an encouraging sign for the film’s sustainability.

Domestically, Thunderbolts has now earned $130.4 million, officially surpassing the lifetime North American gross of The Marvels. It’s currently on pace to outgross The Incredible Hulk’s domestic total of $134.8 million, a milestone it’s expected to pass before the end of its third weekend.

The film’s worldwide total stands at $273.95 million, including $143.55 million from overseas markets, and is projected to hit the $300 million mark by this upcoming weekend. Notably, Thunderbolts surpassed The Incredible Hulk’s global haul of $264.7 million by the end of its second weekend.

In contrast, The New Avengers, which opened shortly before Thunderbolts, has already crossed both movies in terms of worldwide earnings, having outperformed Captain America: Brave New World by its second Monday.

The success of Thunderbolts comes as a much-needed win for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has faced declining audience engagement post-Avengers: Endgame. Fans and critics have praised the film’s grounded tone, strong thematic depth, and standout performances from Florence Pugh and Sebastian Stan.

Thunderbolts hit theatres on May 2 and continues to build momentum as it nears major global benchmarks.
