Tom Cruise Hints at New Sequels for ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and ‘Days of Thunder’

May 19, 2025: Hollywood icon Tom Cruise is fueling fan excitement once again, teasing the possibility of sequels to two of his most iconic films — Top Gun: Maverick and Days of Thunder.

In a recent interview, as reported by Deadline, Cruise revealed that he and his team are actively developing ideas for both projects.
Yeah, we are thinking and talking about many different stories and what could we do and what is possible,” Cruise said, adding that the process of bringing Top Gun: Maverick to the screen took 35 years to perfect.

It took me 35 years to figure out Top Gun: Maverick, so all of these things we’re working on, we’re discussing Days of Thunder and Top Gun: Maverick,” he shared.

Released in 2022, Top Gun: Maverick became a global phenomenon, earning over $1.4 billion worldwide and receiving an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture, solidifying its status as one of the most successful sequels ever made.

Cruise also highlighted his jam-packed schedule, noting that several other film projects are in the pipeline.
There are numerous other films that we are actively working on right now. I’m always shooting a film, prepping a film, posting a film,” he said.

Among his upcoming endeavors is a collaboration with Oscar-winning director Alejandro G. Iñárritu, known for The Revenant. The untitled film is slated for release on October 2, 2026, and follows “the most powerful man in the world on a mission to prove he is humanity’s savior.”

With Cruise revisiting his classic roles and pushing creative boundaries, audiences have much to look forward to in the coming years.
