Tom Cruise in Talks to Reprise Les Grossman in ‘Tropic Thunder’ Spinoff

May 27, 2025: Tom Cruise could be bringing back one of his most outrageous roles—Les Grossman from Tropic Thunder. The explosive and eccentric Hollywood executive, known for his fiery temper and unforgettable dance moves, might soon return to screens in a standalone spinoff.

Director Christopher McQuarrie revealed during a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz that he and Cruise have been having “very serious conversations” about a potential Les Grossman movie.

“The conversations we’ve had about Les Grossman are so f—ing funny,” said McQuarrie. “We’re talking about it. We’re having very serious conversations about it, and how best to do it.”

McQuarrie shared that while working on Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, brainstorming the chaotic character of Grossman offered a welcomed comedic break. “Just riffing with Tom playing Les Grossman at the breakfast table—it was one of the real joys of making this movie,” he added.

Cruise first portrayed Les Grossman in the 2008 satirical comedy Tropic Thunder, directed by Ben Stiller. His surprise performance, complete with prosthetics and aggressive dance moves, became a fan favorite.

Meanwhile, Cruise continues to lead Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, which recently premiered to a five-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival. He expressed his gratitude to fans and praised McQuarrie’s direction over the franchise’s evolution.

Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning is now playing in theaters. Tropic Thunder is available to stream on Paramount+.
