Tom Cruise To Star In ‘Days Of Thunder’ Sequel?

Following the success of Top Gun: Maverick, Tom Cruise is reportedly in talks with Paramount to star in a sequel to Days of Thunder, the 1990 racing film directed by Tony Scott. Despite its initial mixed reviews and modest box office performance, Days of Thunder has garnered a cult following, and Cruise sees potential in revitalizing this classic just as he did with Top Gun.

Paramount is currently exploring script ideas for the sequel, and Cruise has several projects in the pipeline, including a film with Alejandro G. Iñárritu and another with Doug Liman set in space. According to insiders, the timeline for the Days of Thunder sequel will depend on which project comes together first based on script readiness.

A Paramount source expressed cautious optimism about the sequel, stating, “I don’t think a Days of Thunder sequel is a terrible idea. You might have said that revisiting Top Gun was a terrible idea. I wouldn’t discount it.”

The original film starred Cruise alongside Nicole Kidman, Robert Duvall, and other notable actors, and featured real NASCAR racers, enhancing its authenticity. With the right script and vision, a sequel could tap into the nostalgia while appealing to a new generation of fans.
