Tributes Pour In: Kiran Rao and Swanand Kirkire Mourn the Loss of Pakistani Singer Haniya Aslam

The music world is mourning the loss of Pakistani singer and Coke Studio sensation Haniya Aslam, who passed away on August 11, 2024, due to a cardiac arrest. The heartbreaking news was shared by her cousin and musical partner, Zeb Bangash, through an emotional Instagram post that included a series of touching photographs of Haniya, accompanied by the caption, “Hanini.”

Aslam’s untimely demise has sparked an outpouring of grief and condolences from both the Pakistani and Indian music communities. Notably, Indian lyricist and singer Swanand Kirkire expressed his sorrow and shared a poignant message on Instagram. Kirkire revealed that he and Haniya were collaborating on an album that will now remain unfinished. He wrote, “My dearest Haniya Aslam @citrushaniya is no more. She suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away peacefully last night. We shared a special bond when we collaborated on @dewarists 2. ‘kaho kya khayal hai’ I’m sharing my last conversation with her, which took place just a few days ago. We have an unfinished album that we were working on together.”

Kirkire extended his heartfelt condolences to Zeb Bangash and Haniya’s family, saying, “Sending you and your family a big hug. May God give you the strength to cope with this loss. Haniya, we will see you on the other side. Until then, your sweet voice and melodious guitar riffs will continue to play in our ears, reminding us of the terrible loss of losing you.”

Indian filmmaker Kiran Rao also took to Instagram to pay her respects, writing, “Haniya, your music will live on in our hearts.” Actress Huma Qureshi joined in the tributes with a simple yet heartfelt message, “Thank you for the music. RIP Haniya Aslam.”

Haniya Aslam was celebrated for her contribution to the music industry, both in Pakistan and India. She had previously collaborated with the renowned A R Rahman on the song “Sooha Saaha” from the film Highway, showcasing her versatile talent and further bridging the musical ties between the two countries.

Her passing is a significant loss to the music world, leaving behind a legacy of enchanting melodies and collaborations that touched many hearts. As fans and fellow musicians remember her, Haniya Aslam’s music will continue to resonate and inspire long after her departure.
