Udaipur Files Producer Slams 'Hindu Audience' For Film's Box Office Flop
Following the film’s poor box office performance, the producer and Hindu Sena member took to X to slam the public for not supporting a movie based on the Kanhaiya Lal murder, while watching other blockbusters.
August 16, 2025: Amit Jani, the producer of the movie Udaipur Files, has caused a lot of trouble by saying on social media that the “Hindu audience” is to blame for the movie’s poor box office performance. The movie, which is based on the real-life murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, came out on August 8 and didn’t get a lot of attention.
On Friday, Jani posted a video on X (previously Twitter) about how upset he was with how poorly the movie did. In the video that has now gone viral, he said, “Jihaad ne sanaatan ki muhim aur Kanhaiya Lal ji ke nyaay ki koshishon par thook diya…” Jihad has spit on the Sanatan mission and the work to get justice for Kanhaiya Lal.
Jani then congratulated the “Muslim community” on the film’s anticipated withdrawal from theaters, saying in a mocking tone, “Like always, Hindu people are dead and sleeping.” He yelled at the crowd for supporting other movies like the new releases War 2 and Coolie, which have made hundreds of crores, while neglecting his movie, which he says portrays an important genuine narrative. Jani further said that he will lose about ₹10–12 crore.
Critics applauded the film’s “well-intentioned” subject matter, but they didn’t like how it was presented. They called it a “badly made” picture with bad narration, production qualities, and acting. The movie is said to have made only ₹1.54 crore since it came out, and most people think it was a box office flop.
A lot of people on social media are upset with what the producer said. Many of them say that the film failed because of bad reviews and a small release, not because people didn’t care. It’s also known that Jani is in charge of the Hindu Sena’s Uttar Pradesh chapter, which gives his comments a political angle.
