Hiccup and Toothless Return in an Epic Reimagining of the 2010 Animated Classic
Washington [US], February 14: Universal Pictures has finally dropped the highly anticipated official trailer for its live-action adaptation of ‘How to Train Your Dragon,’ giving fans a thrilling first look at the beloved story’s reimagining.
The 2-minute 28-second trailer introduces Hiccup, a young Viking struggling to live up to his father’s expectations as a dragon hunter. However, instead of slaying dragons, he forms an unbreakable bond with Toothless, a Night Fury dragon, setting the stage for an epic adventure of friendship, courage, and discovery.

Directed by Dean DeBlois, the film is set to release in theaters on June 13, 2025. It features:

At a special event for the trailer launch, DeBlois expressed his excitement about reimagining the beloved story and revealed that this version would expand upon the original’s narrative, character depth, and action sequences.
“With the rushed production schedule and limited resources we had on that first movie for DreamWorks, there were things that we skipped past that we could have maybe done a little more justice to—some of the characters, some of the depth of relationships, and the immersive action,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

One of the biggest changes in this version is a greater focus on Astrid, Hiccup’s friend and love interest. DeBlois admitted that her character was “a little underserved” in the original film.
Now, Astrid (played by Nico Parker) will have a deeper backstory, coming from a proud lineage of Viking warriors and dreaming of leading her people.
