Unstoppable, Wolf Man Premiere Cancelled Due To Pacific Palisades Wildfire In LA

January 8, 2025: The ongoing wildfire in Pacific Palisades has had a significant impact on Hollywood events, with two high-profile premieres being cancelled due to the escalating danger. Universal Pictures announced that the premiere of Wolf Man, originally scheduled for Tuesday at the TCL Chinese Theatre, was cancelled in light of the worsening wildfire situation and associated evacuations. A representative from Universal confirmed the cancellation, citing the sensitivities around the “worsening weather situation in LA” as the key reason.

The wildfire, which has expanded to more than 1,200 acres, has triggered widespread evacuations, putting many homes and buildings in Los Angeles at risk. The Pacific Palisades fire, which started around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday near 1190 North Piedra Morada Dr., rapidly spread due to strong winds of at least 40 mph. By the evening, it had already consumed nearly 3,000 acres, and authorities have evacuated about 30,000 residents in the affected areas, with over 10,000 homes threatened.

The Wolf Man premiere cancellation comes just hours after the premiere of Jennifer Lopez’s Unstoppable, which was also cancelled due to the same wildfire. The movie, directed by William Goldenberg, marks the directorial debut of the Argo editor and tells the story of wrestler Anthony Robles, with Lopez starring as his mother. The event was set to take place at the DGA Theater in West Hollywood, but due to safety concerns, it was called off. The premiere had a star-studded guest list, including Lopez, Jerome (who plays Robles), Don Cheadle, Michael Peña, Mykelti Williamson, and others.

As of the latest reports, the fire continues to rage, with authorities working to manage the evacuation efforts and prevent further destruction. While Wolf Man is still set for its theatrical release on January 17, the premiere’s cancellation is just one of many safety measures being taken as LA faces a tense wildfire season. The rapidly developing situation is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by wildfires in California, with both the entertainment community and residents in the area on high alert.
